Strategies for Vintage Eyewear Sizing

The very first pair of vintage eyewear i bought was obviously a glossy pair of black cat eyes having a fire-burst of rhinestones at the edges. It turned out also memorable given it was the first time I had ordered vintage eyeglasses on the internet. Now, I was thinking I'd done all of my research and knew my measurements. Experts say, provided that the bridge and lens measurements were within 2mm of the measurements of the well-fitting pair that we already own, they need to fit.

Well, my measurements were 48-19 along with the vintage eyeglasses were 46-18. Seems like it'd work, right? Well, it form of did. The vintage frames did sit comfortably in my face, even though the bridge was smaller. A small problem could be that the width in the frames were excessively small for my face! The entire frame width was 4 5/8" on the vintage frames, while on my frames, these folks were 5 1/4"!

Some tips i did not know was that vintage eyewear runs smaller than modern glasses. In older times, lenses for vintage eyewear were just about all made from glass, that's heavier than modern plastic lenses. So eyeglasses were made smaller to make lighter eyeglasses.

With my next set of eyeglasses, I guaranteed to take the frame width into account. I came across moobs using the measurements of 48-18 and a width of 5 1/4". Although the bridge was smaller, this couple of glasses fit beautifully! Ever since then, I've also ordered pairs in which the bridge was 1mm or 2mm larger and people glasses fit fine too.

When getting a set of two vintage cat eye glasses, it's fine should your lens width and bridge measurements are smaller or larger by 2mm. The width of the frames is a different story. Determined by your likes, you are able to determine if you will want frame that is the little smaller or a little larger. Many people like them smaller as that is certainly more authentic, I needed an even more modern look and prefered Vintage Sunglasses a larger frame.

Also one last note, don't get worried if the frames you've bought seem a little uneven whenever you hook them up to (particularly if they don't really have lenses, since that is what keeps the frames straight). When it comes to plastic and aluminum frames, your optician heats up the frames and bends it a little to match your head.
